Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

This family recipe from the 1930's is simply the best Strawberry Ice Cream recipe you will ever make.

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cups mini marshmallows or 30 large marshmallows cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 16 ounces frozen strawberries (defrosted) any brand with sugar added
  • a few drops red food coloring

Equipment

  • 1 Ice Cream Maker For electric ice cream makers freeze barrel for 24 hours prior to making this recipe.
  • 1 Double boiler
  • 1 Mixer
  • 1 Plastic container Large enough to accommodate 1.5 quarts of ice cream.

Method
 

  1. Combine marshmallows and milk in a double boiler.
    3/4 cups mini marshmallows, 1 cup whole milk
  2. Cook over medium to low heat, stirring constantly until marshmallows are dissolved.
  3. Set aside mixture until it is cool.
  4. Whip heavy cream until it is stiff.
    1 cup heavy cream
  5. Combine whipped cream, cooled marshmallow mixture, and food coloring.
    a few drops red food coloring
  6. Add mixture to ice cream machine, leaving room for strawberries.
  7. Process ice cream according to machines manufacturing instructions. Once mixture starts to thicken (before the mixture becomes too thick), add strawberries.
    16 ounces frozen strawberries (defrosted)
  8. Continue mixing with machine until ice cream is thick and frozen.
  9. Transfer to a bowl with lid and freeze for 2 hours.
